Cutting mills provide fast, controlled size reduction of soft, medium-hard, tough, elastic and fibrous materials, including plastics, polymers, rubber, textiles, wood, plant material, food products, pharmaceuticals and heterogeneous waste.

Material is reduced through efficient cutting and shearing between rotating blades and stationary cutting bars, while interchangeable bottom sieves produce a defined and reproducible particle size.

With models ranging from compact laboratory systems to high-torque mills for demanding applications, these versatile machines can be configured with different rotors, hoppers, sieves, collection vessels and cyclone systems.

How Cutting Mills Work

Material enters the cutting mill through the feed hopper and moves into the size-reduction chamber, where a high-speed rotor drives the rotating knives past fixed stationary knives. This close knife interaction creates a controlled cutting and shearing action that efficiently reduces tough, fibrous, elastic and heterogeneous materials with relatively low heat generation. The material remains inside the chamber until it is small enough to pass through the selected bottom sieve, which controls the final particle size.

Once reduced, the processed material flows through the discharge outlet and into a collection vessel or optional cyclone collection system for clean, efficient sample recovery.

Dust Free Cyclone Options

A cyclone collection system helps create a dust-free crushing process by pulling airborne fines and loose particles away from the jaw crusher during operation. As material is crushed, fine dust can escape from the discharge area and handling points; the cyclone uses airflow to capture those particles and separate them from the air stream before they spread into the lab or production area. This improves operator cleanliness, reduces housekeeping, helps protect nearby equipment, and can recover valuable material that would otherwise be lost as dust.

For applications involving dry, brittle, abrasive, or hazardous powders, cyclone collection also supports a cleaner, more controlled process from crushing through final collection.
