How Jaw Crushers Work

Jaw crushers reduce large, hard materials by compressing them between two heavy jaw plates: one fixed jaw and one moving jaw. Material is fed into the top of the crushing chamber, where the moving jaw repeatedly presses it against the fixed jaw, breaking it into smaller pieces by pressure and fracture.

As the material becomes smaller, gravity moves it downward through the tapered crushing zone until it reaches the set discharge size and exits at the bottom. This simple mechanical action makes jaw crushers ideal for coarse size reduction of rocks, minerals, ceramics, glass, metals, construction materials, and other brittle or hard samples before further grinding, milling, or analysis.

Dust Free Cyclone Options

A cyclone collection system helps create a dust-free crushing process by pulling airborne fines and loose particles away from the jaw crusher during operation. As material is crushed, fine dust can escape from the discharge area and handling points; the cyclone uses airflow to capture those particles and separate them from the air stream before they spread into the lab or production area. This improves operator cleanliness, reduces housekeeping, helps protect nearby equipment, and can recover valuable material that would otherwise be lost as dust.

For applications involving dry, brittle, abrasive, or hazardous powders, cyclone collection also supports a cleaner, more controlled process from crushing through final collection.
