Knife Mill Systems
Fast, Reproducible Homogenization for Soft, Fibrous, Moist, and Difficult Samples
Knife mills provide fast, efficient size reduction and complete homogenization of soft, medium-hard, elastic, fibrous, and moisture-rich materials. Their high-speed blades process dry products as well as samples containing water, oil, or fat, making them especially effective for foods, animal feeds, plant materials, pharmaceuticals, and other laboratory samples.
Adjustable operating parameters support both preliminary size reduction and fine grinding, producing homogeneous, representative samples with minimal temperature increase.
Available in configurations for small laboratory batches through larger sample volumes, knife mills can be equipped with specialized blades, containers, lids, and cryogenic accessories to accommodate tough, sticky, heat-sensitive, or difficult-to-process materials while delivering reliable and reproducible results.

How Knife Mills Work
Knife mills reduce and homogenize samples inside a closed grinding chamber using rapidly rotating blades. As the knife turns, the material is repeatedly drawn into the cutting zone, where it is sliced, sheared, and impacted against the blade edges and chamber walls. The continuous circulation exposes the entire sample to repeated cutting, producing a uniform, representative result while the processed material remains contained inside the chamber.
By adjusting blade speed, grinding time, blade geometry, and container configuration, knife mills can efficiently process soft, fibrous, elastic, moist, oily, and temperature-sensitive materials.
